Position : Veterinary Technician/ Office Manager

Vacancies: 2

Job Type: Full time, Permanent

Salary: CAD $19.00 per hour

Hours of work: 40 hours per week

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Over time could include some Saturdays and on-call shifts. Overtime pay according to government regulations time and half

Education : Two- or three-year animal health/veterinary technology program

Experience: Five years experience in a similar veterinary technician position, with experience in animal emergencies, triaging case and after care.  Two to three years office management experience, supervision off employees, monthly work reviews, writing and applying protocols and interviewing candidates, is an asset.

Qualifications and Experiences

·       Blood extractions and blood work interpretation

·       X-ray and interpretation

·       Abdominal and cardiac ultrasound and ultrasound interpretation

·       Guided ultrasound cytology/histology sample collection

·       Experience in surgical instruments preparation and sterilization

·       Experience in assisting veterinarian during surgeries

·       Experience in sedation, anesthesia, and monitoring patients during surgeries and in recovery

·       Experience in Veterinary Cytology

·       Experience in Veterinary Oncological Cytology

·       Experience in Oncological treatment and care of animals

·       Experience handling cats, dogs and ferrets in a safe manner

·       Strong organizational skills

·       Exceptional client service skills

·       Demonstrated mastery of the documentation required for admission, discharge, preparation of estimates and invoices, taking deposits and other general clerical tasks

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Welcoming clients and answering questions their questions and escorting them to examination rooms

·       Answering phones and scheduling appointments and admitting patients for surgeries and hospitalisation

·       Ensuring that client communications are handled in a timely manner and if necessary, referred to the appropriate doctor or staff member

·       Scanning of documents or transferring of files electronically, documents and maintains proper medical record keeping

·       General clerical tasks as required

·       Assists with the admission and discharge of patients, creating estimates, taking deposits, and sending invoices, documents patient information in preparation for final invoice

·       Communicates with clients as directed by the veterinarian or the technician and documents all communication in patient files

·       Being flexible to handle on-call and over time shifts, include some Saturdays

·       Responsible for keeping service areas clean and organized

·       Produce diagnostic radiographs and collect samples as required

·       Prepare and distribute animal medication and vaccinations under supervision of veterinarian

·       Responsible for set up and cleaning of the surgical suite, X-ray Room, and exam room

·       Assists with surgical procedures by prepping the patient, surgical suite, and instruments

·       Assists in sedation and anesthesia and restraining of patients so that the veterinarian/technician can perform procedures effectively

·       Providing bandage care, rehabilitation, and nursing care for recovering animals

·       Counsel clients on animal health care
